Welcome fellow traveling Jinetes! We are the Grozdanova Sisters and El Jinete Films is our independent production company that we founded in 2012 shortly after we began production on our first feature documentary.
We have moved around — a lot. "El Jinete" means horseman in Spanish, and that is what defines us. Born in Bulgaria, we hopped to Australia where we swam with some unpleasant jellyfish; then we globe-trotted to Vancouver and crossed some very steep suspension bridges in one of North America’s oldest forests; afterwards we learned to ski on the slopes of Calgary’s Olympic Park; in Montreal, we adopted a quite peculiar québecois accent. We conquered America, too, one peach cobbler at a time in Atlanta, GA. And then there was Spain, where we found ourselves one could say. Rock n' roll was discovered and the celtic bagpipes inaugurated our first documentary.
Chicago. A good American home, and where we became Americans. We lived by day but we thrived at night. There we completed our second feature documentary after touring the continental USA with an ambitious young group of musicians.
From Chicago Queens to Mississippi Queens. Down South to New Orleans on a tug-boat we traveled with our boots and cameras, and soon became embedded in the jazzy and swampy filmmaking community of America’s musical roots.
Biliana lives in New Orleans, LA, where El Jinete Films keeps its main headquarters; Marina continues to continent hop, from Montreal, Paris and now to Japan.
