In the near future, the United States is hit with nationwide nuclear strikes from an unknown enemy. All radio & internet communication is down. Energy and oil production has come to a halt. The nation quickly slips into chaos. Montana is heavily targeted due to its air bases and nuclear missile sites. In Browning, Montana, on the Blackfeet Reservation, Walter Running Crane Jr. and his family are of the few who didn't evacuate. Montana has become the Wild West all over again. All stores have long since been looted, towns are empty, gas is scarce and marauders run rampant. People quickly revert to using horses and wagons for travel. Walter’s son has been missing since the strikes, enticing Walter to stay and look for him. Shifting winds and rain bring nuclear fallout towards Walter’s land and force him and his family to finally evacuate. They travel by horse and wagon across a majestic yet desolate Montana. Along the way, Walter is confronted by hostile groups who are after their resources. A long and perilous journey finally leads Walter to his son, and together with his family they search for a new beginning in uncontaminated lands.
